Clinical Practice
Scope of Practice
Clinical practice is centred on gastrointestinal surgery, with a primary focus on laparoscopic and minimally invasive techniques. The emphasis is on careful patient selection, sound indication, and execution that prioritises safety and recovery.
Work includes both elective and emergency gastrointestinal surgery, with decisions guided by clinical context rather than procedural preference.
Conditions and Procedures
The scope of operative work includes, but is not limited to, the following:
– Laparoscopic cholecystectomy for gallbladder disease
– Laparoscopic and open hernia repair
– Appendicectomy (including complicated appendicitis)
– Intestinal obstruction and emergency bowel surgery
– Selected colorectal and upper gastrointestinal procedures
Approach to Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally invasive surgery is approached as a tool, not an ideology. Laparoscopic techniques are employed where they offer meaningful benefit in terms of recovery, morbidity, and long-term outcome.
Open surgery remains an essential part of gastrointestinal practice, and conversion is considered a clinical decision—not a failure—when patient safety or operative clarity demands it.
Academic and Teaching Role
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at a teaching hospital in Jabalpur, with regular involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate surgical education.
Teaching focuses on developing clinical judgment, anatomical understanding, and ethical decision-making alongside technical skill.
Patient Care and Consultations
Clinical consultations, operative planning, and follow-up care are conducted through established institutional systems to ensure continuity and appropriate documentation.
